Slide Rules
Collecting vintage calculators somehow lead to collecting slide rules, the computing device that was used from the early 17th century to the mid-1970s. Then, the introduction of Hewlett-Packard’s scientific calculators put an end to slide rule use almost overnight. These instruments have not only charm, but advantages too, not the least of which is that you have to understand the problem you’re working, instead of blindly punching keys and trusting the answer.
